Yee: CSU Chancellor's Legislative Report Card Reflects Values of Executives, Not Students
Senator Yee releases his own report card of the CSU administration
SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) blasted a recently released legislative report card by the California State University Chancellor’s Office. In addition, Yee released his own report card of the CSU administration.
“Based on the Chancellor’s positions on legislation, I am proud of my D score on his report card,” said Yee. “Rather than fighting for students and faculty, the CSU administration used taxpayer funds to advocate for themselves and their fellow top executives. It is unconscionable that they opposed legislation that would have stopped executive compensation increases, limited student fee hikes, protected workers, and reformed the Board of Trustees. The Chancellor’s report card is a sham.”
Yee authored two of the bills in which the Chancellor gave negative marks to legislators despite the fact that the bills were supported by students, faculty, and workers of the university. SB 967 would have prohibited pay hikes for top administrators during bad budget years or within two years of a student fee increase. SB 1515 would have designated seven of the 25 trustees to be students, faculty, or workers from within the university system.
Senator Yee released the following report card of the CSU administration based on their legislative advocacy in the 2011-2012 legislative session:

Yee has consistently received 100% scores on report cards by CSU students (California State Students Association) and faculty (California Faculty Association). For his legislative efforts, Yee was honored with the Legislator of the Year Award from the California Faculty Association as well as the Outstanding Achievement Award from the California College Media Association, Champion of Journalism Education Award from the California Journalism Education Coalition, and the Friend of Scholastic Journalism Award from the Journalism Education Association.
Yee also taught at CSU and is a CSU alumnus (San Francisco State University).
“Unlike the current CSU administration, I am hopeful that the incoming chancellor will represent the interests of the entire university community and that he will put in place a government relations team that will work with – not against – the Legislature to address the needs of students,” said Yee.
