SENATOR ASHBY ANNOUNCES LA SHELLE DOZIER AS SENATE DISTRICT 8 WOMAN OF THE YEAR

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) announced that she named La Shelle Dozier as this year’s Senate District 8 Woman of the Year. Ms. Dozier is the Executive Director of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA).

“It is an honor to recognize La Shelle Dozier as Senate District 8 Woman of the Year,” said Senator Ashby. “La Shelle’s work is integral to helping people in Sacramento find a place to call home—she is truly a rockstar.”

La Shelle Dozier is the Executive Director of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) where she oversees community development and revitalization strategies in the City and County of Sacramento, as well as the provision of housing for low income residents using a wide variety of programs and financing mechanisms. Ms. Dozier is responsible for administering the Agency’s $347 million budget for 2022 with a workforce of 313 employees. Her leadership has led to SHRA to be a two-time recipient of the Sacramento Workplace Excellence Leader Award from the Sacramento Area Human Resources Association. The Agency manages a $325 million affordable housing portfolio, and under the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV/formerly Section 8), rent assistance is provided for more than 50,000 low income people—including elderly and disabled residents in the City and County of Sacramento.

The Woman of the Year event dates back to 1987, when Assemblywoman Bev Hansen (R) and Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D), noticed the California Legislature had no events planned for Women’s History Month in March. They arranged to invite one woman from each Senate and Assembly district to come to the Capitol and be honored for their accomplishments.
