SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) released a statement after five of her bills--SB 321 (Youth Literacy Act), SB 350 (Student Support for Mental Health and Bereavement), SB 374 (Firefighter Memorial Park Restoration Act), SB 578 (Trauma-Informed Harm Reduction for Youth), and SB 659 (California Water Supply Solutions Act of 2023) – were signed by Governor Newsom this evening. He also vetoed SB 731, her Return to Office Employee Notification Act.

Foster youth in California will now be able to attend college free of charge thanks to new legislation. The legislation, SB 307, which was introduced by Senators Angelique V. Ashby and Mike, McGuire was signed into the state budget on July 10.
This is a huge win for foster youth located in the state of California. According to Los Angeles, CA’s KTLA 5, foster children in the state that is home to Hollywood will be able to attend college for free, thanks to a new law.
