This is a huge win for foster youth located in the state of California. According to Los Angeles, CA’s KTLA 5, foster children in the state that is home to Hollywood will be able to attend college for free, thanks to a new law.




Foster youth across California will now be able to attend college, free of charge, after new legislation, SB 307, was signed into the state budget Monday.

The new Fostering Futures program will cover the entire cost for foster youth to attend a University of California, California State University or California community college.

More than 90% of foster youth in the Golden State want to go on to college, but only about 4% currently achieve that dream.

KCRA 3 Sacramento - A new bill going through the state Legislature would cover the cost of college for foster youth in California. Senate Bill 307 would guarantee that those who were part of the foster care system in California would be able to go to college debt-free at institutions within the California State University, University of California and community college systems.




Today, Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) announced that she named La Shelle Dozier as this year’s Senate District 8 Woman of the Year. Ms. Dozier is the Executive Director of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA).
