SACRAMENTO -- The Capital Caucus announced today that its members have elected the new Sacramento-based regional caucus’s first leadership team. Senate Majority Leader Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento) will serve as Chair, and Assemblymember Maggy Krell (D-Sacramento) will serve as Vice Chair.

The newly formed Capital Caucus was established to bring together the legislators from the greater capital region to drive progress on shared goals. The Capital Caucus is bicameral and bipartisan.

“The Sacramento region is home to some two million Californians, and yet our shared priorities often get lost in the noise of the Capitol,” said Senate Majority Leader Ashby. “I am honored to serve as the inaugural Chair for the Capital Caucus. We will work together as a bipartisan group to be a strong, unified voice for the people and businesses who call this region home."

“When legislators put regional needs ahead of party labels, we can achieve real results,” said Assemblymember Krell. “The members of the Capital Caucus are committed to working collaboratively to advance real solutions that reflect the priorities of our residents - from infrastructure and public safety to economic opportunity and quality of life. The Capital Caucus gives our region the coordinated voice it deserves in the Legislature, and I am honored to serve as the first Vice Chair for this important Caucus.”

The founding members of the Capital Caucus are:

  • Senate Majority Leader Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento)
  • Senator Christopher Cabaldon (D-West Sacramento)
  • Senator Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks)
  • Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters)
  • Assembly Minority Leader Heath Flora (R-Ripon)
  • Assemblymember Josh Hoover (R-Folsom)
  • Assemblymember Maggy Krell (D-Sacramento)
  • Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove)
