SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) released a statement regarding her appointment as Assistant Whip of the California State Senate:

“I am humbled that President pro Tempore Atkins has put her trust in me to serve as Assistant Whip,” said Senator Ashby. “I thank her, and Senate Leadership, for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the leadership team. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to move California forward.”

The Senate Assistant Whip is responsible to help navigate the party through their legislative priorities, ensuring progress for Californians. The term “whip” comes from an old fox-hunting expression—“whipper-in” which referred to a member of the team who was responsible for keeping dogs from straying during a chase.
