Majority Leader Ashby joins City of Refuge for World of Wonder Groundbreaking

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senate Majority Leader Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento) joined City of Refuge for the groundbreaking of an innovative restorative housing project on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Oak Park.
Senator Ashby secured $8 million in the 2023-24 California State Budget to fund the housing project, which offers stable, supportive housing for families with children and will offer performing and visual arts as part of the therapeutic and social services programming on-site.
“This investment reflects a continued commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities, strengthening community-based services, and addressing housing insecurity across District 8,” Majority Leader Ashby said, “I remain dedicated to partnering with trusted organizations like City of Refuge to deliver solutions for our community.”

We have incredible businesses, schools, organizations, and a rich history in Oak Park that is not finished,” said City of Refuge co-founder Rachelle Ditmore, “There is a story in our community that I believe will be a picture of what an ecosystem can become. Senator Angelique Ashby represents Sacramento County and is the first Senate Majority Leader from the City of Sacramento. She is the first woman elected to represent the Sacramento metropolitan area in the State Senate in more than 20 years.
