SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento) responds to the news coming out of the office of the President pro Tempore today, announcing several key changes in leadership and committee assignments.

“It is an extraordinary honor to be selected to lead the Senate’s distinguished Business, Professions, and Economic Development Committee. Though following Senator Roth’s outstanding Chairmanship is a high bar, I look forward to the opportunity to build on his tremendous work. Senator “General” Roth is of the highest intellect and integrity – and the committee has thrived under his time as Chairman. I will do all I can to maintain his high standards in furtherance of the Senate’s good work.”

Senator Ashby, who is in the second year of her first legislative term, has served on the Business, Professions & Economic Development Committee since arriving in the Senate last year.

In addition to being selected to Chair the Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee, Senator Ashby was also selected for a key role on the President pro Tempore’s leadership team. While the Senator is not new to the leadership team, she is honored to be placed in a prestigious and important role to assist Senate President pro Tem McGuire during his tenure.

About Senator Angelique V. Ashby

Senator Angelique V. Ashby represents Sacramento County. She is the first woman elected to represent the metropolitan area of Sacramento in the State Senate in more than 20 years, and only the second woman ever in the seat. She was elected to the Sacramento City Council in 2010 and was the sole woman for more than half of her 12 year tenure, and the only member in city history to serve as Vice Mayor or Mayor pro Tem for 8 years. She is a graduate of the University of Pacific’s, McGeorge School of Law, and earned her baccalaureate at the University of California at Davis. She and her husband Zac have three children and live in the City of Sacramento.
