Senator Ashby Bill to Keep Sacramento Zoo Relocation to Elk Grove on Track Passes Assembly Local Government Committee Unanimously

SACRAMENTO, CA – SB 739 allows the City of Elk Grove to use a Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR) construction contract for the Sacramento Region’s new zoo in Elk Grove, helping the City jump start the project and keep costs low.

Senator Ashby Secures $25 Million In Ongoing Annual Funding to Make Debt-Free College a Reality for California's Foster Youth

Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) released the following statement after Governor Newsom signed a budget agreement cementing $25 million to make college debt free for foster youth. (The announcement comes as Ashby’s legislative effort through SB 307 has moved into SB 117 of the California State Budget.)

College now completely free for California foster youth

More than 90% of foster youth in the Golden State want to go on to college, but only about 4% currently achieve that dream.

Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) released the following statement after her bill SB 788—Parity in Cider and Perry Manufacturing—passed the Assembly Governmental Organization Committee with bipartisan support. SB 788 creates parity in the production of beer, cider, and perry across both large and small manufacturers by allowing craft brewers to produce cider and perry with just their beer license.

SENATOR ASHBY ANNOUNCES CALIFORNIA WATER SUPPLY SOLUTIONS ACT OF 2023 PASSES SENATE NATURAL RESOURCES AND WATER COMMITTEE

Today, Senator Angelique V. Ashby (D-Sacramento) released the following statement after her bill, SB 659, passed the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee.  SB 659, also known as the California Water Supply Solutions Act of 2023, will direct the Department of Water Resources to establish a goal for California to create an additional groundwater recharge capacity of 10 million acre-feet by 2035 without reducing the amount of water available for environmental purposes. The bill also requires the plan to protect safe drinking water and maintain a high level of water quality.
